Visit students in your local area and talk to them about future job opportunities.

What is a Careers Event?

Career Events are an opportunity for young people to meet a range of local business professionals showcasing current job opportunities. They may be designed to focus on a specific industry or sector, such as STEM, or themed around a specific area of learning such as literacy or numeracy.

How should I prepare?

Be prepared to discuss the current opportunities in your company and industry, to give young people a flavour of what’s available. If you have the resources then you might want to bring materials such as business cards, leaflets, free samples or some technology to showcase to students. Primarily, though, careers events are a chance for you to have an informal conversation with students that will help them understand the world of work.

What is the impact of a Careers Event?

Career Events are a very popular way of engaging young people with the world of work as they allow a great deal to be achieved in one setting and, crucially, provide more opportunities for relaxed one to one conversation between young people and potential employers.

This aspect is particularly important in creating interest and building confidence in future pathways for young people.
