Case study
Scotland - Deanston Primary School

Alan Atkinson, from Deanston Primary School near Doune, set up a Founders4Schools encounter for young people in his school from P4 - P7.

It was an interactive and informative way of completing a unit of work and engaging with the local business community. The encounter also covered elements of both A Curriculum for Excellence and the Career Education Standard.

Curriculum for Excellence Outcomes

  • I can explain to others my ambitions/what I would like to do and look for ways to achieve them/that. SOC 1-20a
  • Through taking part in a variety of events and activities, I am learning to recognise my own skills and abilities as well as those of others. HWB 1-19a

Career Education Standard "I can" statements

  • I can learn about the world of work from visits, projects and my experiences.
  • I can talk to employers about myself and about their workplace.
  • I can recognise that there are different ways to get a job.

“I learned about different jobs, lots of technology jobs. I learned that jobs will change in the future.” P5 pupil, Deanston Primary.
