CAREER AND JOBS EVENTS

Invite speakers from industry to inspire and inform your students about careers and relate what they are learning in school to the world of work.

What are a Career and Jobs Events?

This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to hear real stories from real people.

These events can be structured to suit your particular needs and age of students and can include anything from career inspiration talks to Career Fairs.

They can be used to support your lessons in the classroom, to look at particular business sectors that curriculum subjects can lead to; or simply to inspire your students about a range of career options open to them. You choose the format that will work for your students.

They can be useful in guiding students in making informed decisions about subject choices.

You can even hold your very own TED Talk, where inspirational speakers talk about their Career journey and students can ask them questions.

What is the impact of a Career or Jobs Event?

These events allow students to hear from real-life role models who can demonstrate the relevance and connection of what is taught in the classroom. They bring the curriculum to life and allow students to gain an understanding of what different careers entail.

They are a popular way of engaging young people with the world of work as they allow a great deal to be achieved in one setting and, when taking place in school, can provide the opportunity for a relaxed one to one conversation between young people and potential employers. This aspect is particularly important in creating interest and building confidence in future pathways for young people.

We recommend there is Q&A session after the talks so that students can ask their own questions.

These meaningful encounters inspire students and have a positive impact on their future life chances.

This encounter will help and support you to meet the following Gatsby Benchmarks:
